Books read for 2013
I don't know if it's a good thing for me to give myself a goal or not - but I would like to read a few more books this year than last year.  I managed to read at least 64 novels, and I have this nagging feeling that I'm forgetting to list some books I've actually read.  Maybe - maybe not.  This is why I've been trying to keep a list - because I tend to forget what I've read; sometimes I might buy a book I've already bought; and sometimes I start a book, then just forget to finish it, because I get sidetracked by another; sometimes I misplace a book, then forget I've been reading it; and other times I just get bored with it - but if it's not listed, I'll forget to go back to it.  Last year there is at least 20 books I haven't yet finished.  If it weren't for the list, then I would never remember wh/ich books - just in case I feel like going back to them.  Thus the list of books started, and books finished.  It's not only for 'prestige'  or 'ego' but to keep track of myself (lol)

I did a much better job in 2011 reading books than I did in 2010.  2010 I read 54 novels - not including the hundreds of childrens books I read both to my grandchildren, kids in the afterschool program and students in the library classes I host. In 2011 I was able - somehow- to increase my reading from 54 novels to 72 {assuming I remembered to write down each book I read}.  Once again this number does not include any novels or children's books that I've read to my grandchildren, afterschool children or library children.  That would seriously bring up the number, but I rarely keep track of those books.  Too much to remember to do.

I wonder if I can increase the number of books this coming year?  I'm surprised that I read more this year than last - it wasn't a lot more, 18 more - but still.  To me it's amazing that I even read ONE more. :)

This year I'm keeping two lists - books I've started and then when I've finished the book moves down to the finished list, complete with a link to any review I remember to post.  The first books in the started list will be any novels leftover from last year - since I fully intend to finish them sooner or later.

I gave up on these novels - after trying at least twice to finish them, I decided to just stop reading - BTW if anyone wants one of these, send me a message

1. Blood of Eden UF by Tami Dane - too many inconsistancies and details that didn't make sense.  Usually doesn't bother me if kept to a minimum, but too much 
2. Day by Day Armageddon horror by David Bourne - started out promising, but by the middle of the book there wasn't much going on, I became bored, and the reading experience was becoming a bit depressing.
3. Manifold Space - SciFi by Stephen Baxter - Could have been so very, very good.  There's little bits of story, and then it goes on for pages and pages on scientific LECTURE like intervals of planets, the composition, gasses, forming of novas, stars, down to the very minutae of details....It's possible to write a good scifi novel without all the hardcore lecturing.  I guess if I were more like my dad, who loves to read textbooks for fun, then I might have enjoyed it more.  It had such promise, but in the end (or the middle, rather) I decided I just couldn't get through it.  A story with 1-2 pages of dialog and action to five pages of lecturing just isn't for me. (that's an average by the way)  Too much like taking a class I wasn't ready for.
4. Star Doc SciFi by S.L. Viel - interesting start....boring, then interesting part....then boring...totally lost interest; I tried three times to finish this, and it just wasn't happening.
5. Trance UF/SciFi by Kelly Meding - while I love her other series, this new series just wasn't keeping my interest.  Gave away to a better home.
6. With The Lightenings SciFi by David Drake - almost halfway through the book and there is virtually NOTHING going on.  One page story to two pages of infodump...oh.  my.  god.  The.  Frustration. of. reading. this...  I finally gave up - way too many explanations of everything from the way a bird looks to the way a wave flows to the way a ship lands...

2011

Well - a new year....a new list...(rubbing hands gleefully...).  I'm simply going to add the new year to this page, rather than beginning a whole new page.  It'll work.  So I managed to finish reading 54 books in 2010 - that's novels, not including the books I read in the library at school, and it's separate count from the short story collections.  I tend to read one or two shorts at a time in an anthology so it might take me a couple YEARS to finish reading an anthology.  Sounds weird when I put it like that.  :)
