It's Monday and.....Well, it's another Monday. That's all I got.

Well - last week was the last week of school.  But I still get to work for another week or so...
At another work site.  One where I DON'T know the kids.  I hate beginnings.  I hate meeting new kids and ...people.  It's always awkward.  Somehow it's different than meeting new students at whatever school I work at - because then it's on my home turf.  So I'm a little nervous about next week and irritated at myself for being nervous...especially at my age.  I should just be relaxed about everything.  haha.  yeah, right.

Well - Monday again.  Now it's time for us to visit each other's blogs, see what we're reading, etc.  Hosted by Sheila of Book Journey.

I didn't get a whole lot read last week.
I actually only finished reading one book.
Started two others....but finished just the one.

I finally finished Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris.  I was feeling a little frustrated at first because it seemed to be slow going at first...but then I remembered this is The Southern Vampire books.  Sookie lives in Louisiana, where the living is slow and easy (or not easy), and the book writing tends to echo how I imagine the people would talk from there.  I might be totally wrong, but I'm also going by memory of listening to some people we knew who came from areas around there.  So I just relaxed, picked it up and finished.  It was good.
Besides, I totally want to finish this series and see what happens in the end...not reading any  reviews about the last book of the series because I've heard there are many spoilers out there, as well as dramatic reviewers.  So I'll just wait.

Current Reads or rather, the latest two books I've started (as opposed to the other 20 or 50 books I've started and forgotten to finish)
Hexed by Kevin Hearne.
Enjoyed the first novel enough to dive right into
the second one.  Then last night my son's huge dog was laying on the book, and I didn't feel like making him move so I started....
Shadow Kin by M.J. Scott.
Not sure yet what I think of it.  It's reading well, as in the words flow.  I already have the second book because I bought it by mistake a few weeks ago, thinking it was the first.

Well - Summer vacation is almost here (for me). I'm hoping to get a lot more reading done.  I have quite a few books that have been languishing that I should get to reading...and I hope they're good.  :)

    1. haha -I really have started at least close to fifty books in the last year or so. I'm horrible at that. I'll buy books, read a chapter or two, and then start a new one... It's a wonder I get anything finished at all, between non-focusing, book ADD, or just losing them.

I enjoyed all the Sookie books - one of them bored me a bit, but the rest were pretty enjoyable. Two more to go for me. :)

    1. I remember in the "old days" (meaning when I was in school) school started after Labor Day and went until the second week of June. Things change though. That's the one constant in life. (ugh! philosophy, what's wrong with me!!)

Good luck for your last week. Last weeks of school is always fun and yet the kids get a little wild, over stress or excitement of vacation. My granddaughter had a graduation for kindergarten in her class, and her daddy had to explain to her that meant it was the last day for her. She thought she could go back to kindergarten the next day. She's missing her teacher. :)

  3. I started the Iron Druid chronicles but never read past the first book. I really enjoyed it though.

    Have fun reading this week!

    1. I feel like I waited too long to read the first druid book - but then I tend to do that, having a problem with starting soooo many books. :) Every time I see a new book, it's like '' oooooohhh, shiny!'' :)

  4. Good luck at your new school. You're lucky we have 15 days of school left or at least that's what my daughter told me.
I have not read any of the Sookie Stackhouse series although I've heard they were good. I'm just picky about my vampires. Have a great week!

    1. I can't imagine another 15 days of school - although maybe she started later than we did. We start in the middle of August. Feels like summer is cut short that way, but then....if we didn't start then we would be in school through June.

The Sookie books are very different from anything else out there. A very different feel to the narration. They're good, but different. I'm picky about vampires, also. Other than a few series, I like my vampires to be the hunted ones - or very dangerous. Not the uber romantic ideals that some write. different tastes. Or - Different Strokes for Different Folks. (old saying from....the 70's? or before, lol)

  5. New follower, and glad to discover your site! You've got Terry Pratchett right there in the sidebar, so I'm guessing I found another favorite blog :)

I've been re-reading the Sookie books leading up to reading the last one, they are so good!!

    1. Bella! I LOVE Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Unfortunately, I tried to read his SciFi The Long Earth, and it was... I couldn't get into it. I think it might be because the co-author is Steven Baxter, who is way too wordy, and info-dumpy for me to enjoy. He's smart, just goes on too long about things.

But as far as the discworld series...I enjoyed every single one. I think I'll start re-reading them, though I've read them all at least twice already. :)

  6. Summer vacation is almost here for me - just three more days with kids and three teacher workdays to go. I have Hexed on my TBR mountain but haven't read any of the series yet. I did just finish the Sookie Stackhouse series. I had been avoiding reviews too. Come see my Monday Report here. Happy reading!

    1. Two more to go for me - I have to read Deadlocked, and then the last one.

Six more days! for me I have to work til the 11th, but it's only half days. So that's nice. I can sleep in a few of those days.

You might want to start with Hounded, since Hexed is the second in the series (if you're talking about the Hexed by Kevin Hearne. I found at least three other books titled Hexed.)

      Happy Vacation!!!!!!!

  7. I've purchased a later book in a series too! That is so frustrating, but I'm glad you found the first one. :)
By the way, you won the giveaway for Sleeping in Eden. Can you send me your mailing info at Lindsey.Stefan@comcast.net? I sent you an email, but maybe I had the wrong email address. Congratulations!

    1. Glad I'm not the only one. ;) It's always just so weird the first few days...not know where to fit in. Oh well, I'm sure in a few days I'll feel better about it all. Thanks

I like the idea of Aldous Huxley being one of the first scifi writers....I read Yellow Chrome by him and had a hard time staying with the book. There were some things in there about future - like people grown in glass tubes..and this was written in 1922! amazing.

    1. I'm enjoying it very much. I temporarily lost it for a couple days, but JUST found it and have read almost to the end, now. :) Love the dialoguing that goes on between the characters... the main character is such a smart ass. :)
