It's Monday, and I'm Baaack....

There really is no good reason that I've been lacking in the blogging department.  More like lack of the slightest, teeniest, minute bit of ambition or "get up and go" (or in this case, get to the couch and SIGN IN TO BLOGGER...).  So there's no reason to bore you with any reasons - it just wasn't happening for me.
I think I've even lost track of some of the books I've been reading - but I'll just go with what I can recall for now, focusing on my most recent reads.
Hosted by Sheila of Book Journey - It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a fun weekly blog where bloggers/readers get together (in a virtual way, of course) to see what we've all been up to.  Since my last meme post, I've read quite a few books, but since last week or so ....

Recently finished reading short story e-books.  Painless is written by Naomi Clark who is a writer from the UK.  You Can't Shatter Me is a YA short story by Tahlia Newlan - an author from Australia.  Her story is something called magical realism - think of Alice Hoffman, Sara Addison Allen - it's reality with a touch of magic.

Also finished reading Mirror Space by Marianne De Pierres (omg - I LOVE reading her SciFi).  Her books are so engrossing...  I also finished reading the first two in a SciFi series by Joel Shepherd (and those will probably be the only two I'll read) -

Crossover and Breakaway of the Cassandra Kresnov series. The books were good - action, intrigue, plenty of good dialogue and characters...unfortunately, this was just about cancelled out by the overwhelming amount of political infodumps...SO. MANY. WORDS.

A few more of the interesting books I've finished in the last week or two have been Blackbirds by Chuck Wendig (Urban Fantasy) and Camera Obscura, a steampunk by Lavie Tidhar.  Both of these books were page turners.
Most recently finished was Nightshifted an UF by Cassie Alexander.  An interesting read.

At the moment, I'm re-reading on Kindle a short story from Suzanne McLeod titled Full Scale Demolition and in print I'm going back and forth between In Fury Born by David Weber and a memoir called Look Me In The Eye.  The memoir is about living with Asberger's Syndrome before it was diagnosed. whew!

  1. Looks like you were reading up a storm while you weren't blogging :-) A few of the ones you mentioned I plan to read too - especially Blackbirds. Love that cover.

  2. Hey, you got up and posted today, so pat yourself on the back. I've been slacking in the reviewing area of my life; I've read lots this lazy summer but the stack of books that needs reviews posted is so tall that I feel intimidated.

    1. The story did have some humor. It was a good story, kept me interested. Probably for me, ranks just a bit below my favorites (Ilona Andrews, Suzanne McLeod, etc) but much better than a lot of the books out there.

  5. I like all of your pictures. I also like magical realism, such as Marquez, but I don't know about that cover of You Can't Shatter Me. I'll have to check back and see what you think.

    Here's my Monday Post.

    1. Marquez - a writer? I need to find out more...

I reviewed You Can't Shatter Me. There's a very good message on bullying and handling bullies in the story. Good story.

    1. LOL - Mondays are definitely easier when I'm off work! :) I work in the school system so I have summer off, but by the time summer gets here I'm usually wiped. Thank God (Gods, Godess, Godesses?) for summer!

    1. I know - I LOVE twisted cat pics. Wish I could take credit for all of them, but I've only done a few so far. I love what every comes up with on the LOL Cats site though- there are some wonderfully twisted sense of humors out there - right?
