Teaser Tuesday ....Good Riddance, Monday!

I didn't do a Teaser Tuesday post last Tuesday because I was exhausted; and even though I like to tell myself I'm only blogging for myself and not for any recognition (I really am very shy, folks...) I found that I missed the comments. I did look at other bloggers' teaser posts, which was fun, but I missed doing my own.
So no matter how tired I am, I'm doing one tonight - for my little ego and my ....well, for my ego. :)
Teaser Tuesday is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading = full guidelines can be found there.
I've been receiving few late Christmas gifts (late because of mail between countries, yet fun because of the extended surprise factor) I though they had all been received when I came home from work today to find ONE MORE novel, Lex Trent versus The Gods by Alex Bell (author of Jasmyn)...Isn't that a great title? It's a fantasy style novel about a world that has been literally split in half...making it resemble a dumb-bell. The Gods live in the upper half and the humans in the bottom half. Lex Trent is a ...well he scams people.

from the prologue:
" No one knew the precise date when the Globe had split in half. For many hundreds of years the Lands Above and the Lands Beneath had been nothing more than a metaphorical, symbolical divide. But then, one day, the Gods decided that they had had enough - more than enough, in fact - of their subjects complaining and pestering and whining at them day and night. " Yep - of course I already read the prologue. You have to read at least one whole page when you get a book, even if you're in the middle of other books (one of the reasons that I've always got at least four books going at any given time.)

One of my current reads, one that I've been getting about two or three pages a day out of is Janet Evanovich's Wicked Appetite. If you've ever read any of her Stephanie Plum adventures, you'll be familiar with th e character Diesel - the tall handsome guy with long blond hair that seems to be more than human, and yet appears once in a while on a bounty case with Stephanie Plum. In Wicked Appetite he is a secondary character (a very strong side character). Told in first person from Elizabeth Tucker's point of view, this novel is has Diesel appearing in and complicating Elizabeth's life. Elizabeth works in a bakery and seems to have latent talents.

from page 97

" 'I know his scent. The air pressure changes. I get a cramp in my ass.'

I didn't notice a change in the air pressure, and my nose was still stuffed with cellar smells. Fine by me. I didn't want to add any more special skills to my Unmentionableness. "

Bone Song by John Meaney (another one of the presents, yeay) is about a police officer in an alternate reality - this reality has energy produced from the bones of the dead...but something weird is going on. It's difficult to explain this novel, because it's so different. There are other species...wraiths, people with fangs, etc. I'm not very far yet, but whatever is going on, it's very interesting.

from page 50 (Donal is on protection detail for a Diva and they are at one of her performances...)
" And then the aria ended.
Donal bowed his head in silence. Back out of the box, he wiped tears from his face with the back of his hand, and by the time he reached ground level he was practically normal. The two detectives stationed at the side entrance to the auditorium were still damp-eyed.
'Be professional,' said Donal as he went through. "

Sorry there were no excerpts readily available for Bone Song or Lex Trent Versus The Gods. I can tell you that from what I've read so far, they are going to be very entertaining books. I haven't noticed any awkward phrasing or dialogue, which is a big deal for me. :)
