Hosted by Sheila, of Book Journey - this is where we share what we've been reading and what we plan to read.
Continuing my SciFi space opera obsession, I finished reading the fourth novel in Vatta's War series, Command Decision. Pretty good read, liked it almost as much as the third book, which was pretty amazing.
Of course, I jumped right into the fifth and final novel of the series, Victory Conditions. Pretty satisfying ending to a series. The bad guy is vanquished, yet there's the possibility of other fighters... so you know the story isn't quite finished.
I had recently bought the second and third novels from a trilogy by Elizabeth Bear, but then I realized that it's been so long since I read the first book, that I should probably re-read it. So I found my old copy of Hammered. Good thing, because even though I had retained the main gist of the book, it was almost like reading it the first time. Damn good book finished it from Saturday to Sunday - even with the grandchildren around. (sigh - they're getting to be the age where they no longer require constant attention, they play with each other now - bittersweet)
Now, I've just started reading Scardown, the second of the trilogy by Elizabeth Bear and I'm looking forward to it. I know it's going to be good.
After that I'm thinking of jumping right into the last...except that I do know that Ann Aguirre's next Sirantha Jax book is coming out Tuesday and No Matter WHAT - I'm slipping to the bookstore to buy it if I have to scrounge for change!
I'm officially giving up on book reading challenges for 2011. I just can't keep on top of it. either due to extreme laziness, or no will, or mental exhaustion...I don't know which to blame, but I just can't get it together enough to keep track of which challenges I'm participating in, and then posting them everytime I finish a book. for right now, doing two to three book memes is enough. Besides, I've been writing way less reviews than I thought I was going to write. I get weird about it and sometimes start second guessing myself - who cares about my opinion, what do I have to say about a book that's any different than what others are saying etc. I know it's silly, but that's how my brain works. I'm still going to try to post reviews, lol - when I'm feeling self confident enough. LOL In fact, I did start on reviews for each of the Vatta's War novel that I've read.
Happy reading everyone

First, write the reviews for yourself. Think of it as your book journal. It doesn't matter what other people think about your journal. 2nd, I totally get your book challenge dilemma. I'm pretty much going to fall flat on my face with the ones that I joined!
ReplyDeleteLet's hope you are feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteHere's my post for this week: It's Monday! What Are You Reading?! And only two days are left to sign up for the Readerbuzz August Giveaway!
Happy Reading to you too! Sometimes you just have to make a decision that other things are more important and that okay.
ReplyDeleteHere is my week in review.
Oh I'm loving these! I was just clearing out some of my old books and a series I fell in love with I'm totally re-reading. The Lost Regiment is an awesome space series that I have to fight with my DH over who get's to read it over again first.
ReplyDeleteLM Preston - who wrote the Lost Regiment series? is there a kickass female character in there? I'm a sucka for these. :)
ReplyDeleteBook Belle - when I first started blogging, I figured that no one would be reading, so I was totally writing for myself...then slowly people started following me and I started panicking. HaHa -silly, I know it. :)
Hopping through, have a wonderful week :D
