Monday Reading

**don't forget to enter the contest over here**

It is, or soon will be, Monday! ahhhh ...I only have five or so Mondays left of work until the new school year, and I am looking forward to it very much....long days of lazing around, dozing and reading....possibly going outside to soak up the sun. I would say catching up on housework, but I'm not fooling myself about that anymore. I'm not going to do housework...possibly I'll help with dishes more often, but that's probably it. Mwhahahahaha!

So here we are again, another Monday, another It's Monday book meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey

I have slipped back into my B.A.D.D. reading habits. So I finished only one book this week, and that one was...

Defiance by Lili St. Crow (aka Lilith Saintcrow) Young Adult reading at it's creepy best...or at least I enjoyed it. Haven't reviewed it yet, but that's coming soon.

Like I said, I've had a very hard time focusing on only one book. I started reading a lot of books the week before last, until Defiance came, and I went through the same thing this week....

After I finished Defiant, I dived into Afterlife by Naomi Clark. Unfortunately I haven't been able to focus on it, it's that B.A.D.D. thing. Afterlife is an interesting book, complete with wraiths, vampires, ghosts and ghost tidbits....Normally I would be so into a book like this, but my concentration is not working. Look at this cover - it's creepy, deliciously creepy. I'll finish this book soon.

The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove by Christopher Moore. I've been reading this one since I finished reading Magic On The Hunt. I enjoy Christopher Moore's books, they're funny and silly with lots of quirky characters. He doesn't exactly write fantasy, rather I think he parodies a lot of fantasy....you should try his vampire novels, the third is coming out in paperback..or came out in paperback March. Bite Me.

One day during my unfocused wanderings...I walked by my bookcase and noticed a book that I'd put in there a long time ago. Day By Day Armageddon by J.L. Bourne. This book started out as an online journal...I think. Anyway, it's written diary style and there are some gruesome descriptions, but it mainly deals with this guy and his slowly dawning horror and realization of what is happening in the world. It's a gentle horror zombie story. Interesting in its own way, so far. But then, again, I read some and put it aside because I found...

FINALLY FOUND (I've wanted this for ever...) Bleeding Violet by Dia Reeves. I started reading Bleeding Violet this morning (Sunday) and by tonight - midnight I had made it to page 193...and that was with my grandchildren running around this morning and afternoon. That's what I was missing this last two weeks - with the exception of the two books that I did manage to finish reading in two weeks, I miss the ability to just lose myself in reading, losing track of what's going on until I realize that I'm actually almost done with a book.

But it all depends on the mood I'm in, and what's available to read. But sometimes I don't know what I'm in the mood for. Could be hardcore Science Fiction, or it could be SciFi along the lines of Sirantha Jax or Sara Creasy's two books. Or it might be that I'm in the mood for snarky heroines such as Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels. Once in a great while I'm even in the mood for moody books - though that's not really that often. And rarely, I'm in the mood for straight fiction, that's when I read something by Janet Evanovich or even a (gasp) romance by Lyn Kurland or Julie Garwood. That's very rare - I rarely pick up a romance novel anymore....

The past few weeks, I've had a hell of a time figuring out what I feel like reading, so I continue in my mix and match way - grabbing a book, reading a bit, "losing" it, and grabbing another, putting it aside, and finding myself finally immersed in a novel.

Whatever - However I get it done, it IS fun to discover new novels and writers, or revisiting old book worlds.

The book is for urban fantasy, and I found all of her books to be fun reads, fun and dangerous all together. Fun characters, and great setting!
