Monday, Monday, Monday....

hosted by Sheila of Book Journey, this is one of the weekly memes that generate the most comments at my teeny weeny little blog.  I enjoy it - and I enjoy looking at everyone else's weekly summary - even though mostly I lurk, due to time and sometimes feeling like I couldn't possibly add anything that everyone else has already said (issues, anyone? LOL) - but I'm working on that. At any rate, it adds some regularity to my blog - along with Tuesday Teasers, which I also enjoy very much.

Currently reading

The Native Star
thinking of starting Native Star (M.K. Hobson), but I also have Pegasus (Robin McKinley) so that's going to be the next major read for me.

Jealousy (Strange Angels, #3)

Jealousy by Lili St. Crow (aka Lilith Saintcrow)

books being read for school (Library and Afterschool program)

Nightmare at the Book Fair by Dan Gutman - I'm reading this to my afterschool group every Friday.  this past Friday we got through chapter five.  The first two chapters had the kids rolling in laughter.  The next three chapters were funny, but not quite as funny as the second chapter...I had kids fidgeting with the last reading.  Note that these kids range from second grade (just four of them) to fourth grade, along with two sixth graders.  AND Halloween is coming up which affects school aged children way before the day actually gets here.
I am reading The Adventures of a Cat Whiskered Girl to a class in the library of the school I work in.  Daniel Pinkwater has written this novel, and it seems to be holding the children's interest.  We just started it a few weeks ago.

Just finished.

The Half-Made World by Frank Gilman....Oh. My. God.  it's good, it's fantastic.  it's a meaty book.  Review coming very soon.  By the way, The Half-Made World has just been released a week and a half ago - it's a steampunk/western/sci fi mix.  Loved it.
on a more personal note (it's inevitible with me....)
Well, I wish I had more books to report about, but to be perfectly honest - it took me two weeks to finish reading The Half-Made World - and that was a book that was definitely holding my interest.  It's just y'know that whole working for a living thing, grandchildren sucking up all my energy (in a fun way) and in general - life.

I can't complain - I love having the grandchildren around - there's nothing quite like lounging around lazily, while your granddaughter is playing with polly pockets, and telling you her version of life's events.  A big discussion today was how those people who made the Dora popsicles TRICKED us.  See, the package clearly shows differently shaped popsicles, each one a specific color.  Well, when you try to find, for example, the pink star shaped popsicle, you get a pink crescent shaped popsicle.  Instead of a green cross shaped popsicle, those were orange!  and according to the granddaughter, that wasn't very nice of THEM. This was stated with a firm voice, and a little frown.  How cute.

On Friday night, I was treated to the pleasure of the double grandchild sleepover.  Which means, the two toddlers and I slept in the now spare room.  There's not much that compares to laying in bed between the two of them and reading them story after story after story after story....you get the idea!  :)  I learned after the first night of this, though, to shift them over after they fall asleep.  Instead of being in the middle, where they both gravitate toward me, pinning me in one position all night long, I move them both to one side of the bed, and take the outer edge of the bed.  We all sleep better then..or at least I do.  LOL  And it's cute to watch them sleep, they seem to roll toward each other, flinging their arms around each other, while snoring away.  That's when those two get along the best - while they're asleep!  They actually had a great Friday night and Saturday afternoon together.  They shared toys (mostly) and played together.  There was a couple of smacks and pinches, but most of the time they were pretty nice to each other.  Now the other weekend...a completely different story.
LOL
