It's Monday! AAAARRRRHHHH - er....sorry, carried away

This first lol cat is one from the site, but the last one is captioned by me.  It was pretty obvious, and I'll bet about million people might come up with the same caption...just hope I did it first, lol.
Another week has gone flying by - I survived the first week of school/work, my granddaughter survived her first week of kindergarden.  Her mom survived with the help of seeing her daughter everyday at lunch (she's helping us out at lunch, supervising the lunch hour).

And now it's time for another installment of It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Sheila of Book Journey.  Full guidelines are at her site, but it's pretty easy - we list what we're reading, what we've read and link on Mr. Linky at Book Journey.  Fun way to see what we're all reading.
This was a record reading week for me.  I actually finished three novels - I usually average one or two at the most per week.

The first novel was The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater.  Wow.  First book by her I've read and I'm still thinking about it - the whole tone, the beginnings of a relationship, the danger, the suspense....great read.
Next was Dead on the Delta by Stacey Jay.  I put off reading this one because I really didn't think I'd enjoy it.  But I ended up buying it on impulse recently, read it and really enjoyed it.  Quite a bit.  Before looking at her website, I didn't realize this was the same author that wrote YA novels such as Undead Much?.   Things sometimes slip by me.
The last novel I finished reading was Except the Queen by Jane Yolen and Midori Snyder.  Quite the dark fairytale set in contemporary times.  Good reading.  Came out a couple years ago, but the first time I saw the novel was a few months ago, when I bought it.
Started a book on Saturday night, then ended up putting it aside.  Licensed To Ensorcell, by Katherine Kerr.  After reading quite a few books recently that have had extremely good writing styles and dialogue, I found my self not being entertained enough - this is the reason I usually go for palate cleansers after very good novels - or novels that I have enjoyed very much.  But I had so many good reads in a row, I felt like I was on a roll..... it's kind of a shame, because i just might have already bought the second novel, thinking I would like it.  My main problem with this is the stilted narration.  Too formal, and not in that fun fairytale way.  Oh well, can't like them all.
Now, There are two novels coming out I want to mention.
On August 27 the newest Doc, Vampire Hunting Dog novella is releasing in e-book form.  Written by J.A. Campbell, this is a very fun series of stories, Doc is my alltime favorite animal character.  hey - he kills vampires, has a werewolf acquaintance and loves to herd sheep.  What a fun dog! I'm getting it as soon as I can! which will be this week.  By the way - Campbell is raising money for a wolf sanctuary that is one of the victims of that devastating Colorado forest fire - go check out her blog and see what you can do to help.  Julie also has two stories in an anthology (adult) called Bleeding Ink (I love that name)
The other novel I want to mention is Suzanne McLeod's latest Spellcrackers.com book.  It's being released in the UK this week.  The Shifting Price of Prey will come out in two days - August 28th.  You like vampires, shapeshifters, witches, and fae?  You like hot kelpies?  How about hot vampires or creepy vampires.  This is the series for you, and this latest book is every bit as entertaining as the first novel.

    1. It's the only book of her's that I have read. I don't normally read YA, but if that's her style, I might read more.
