It's Monday! again, the Mondays, they won't go away...

Yep!
The Mondays....They just keep on coming. Thank goodness there is the weekly "It's Monday, What are You Reading" posts to keep me looking forward to SOMETHING fun!

Hosted by Sheila at Book Journey....
full set of guidelines at the link. Some of us follow them carefully, some of us (me) not so carefully. However, whichever way it's done, these Monday posts are fun to read.

I feel a little stressed out about this book, When Blood Calls. When I promised to read and review, I really thought I would be able to get this done by the first week of September. It's now the third...actually we're starting the fourth week in September and while I've made a good start in this book...I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know where it is right now. I've looked high and low. Here and there. I've looked many places....I know it will turn up, but I did promise to review it. The only thing that kind of makes me feel better about it, is I have read a good chunk of it and I've seen quite a few reviews of When Blood Calls on the book blogs. J.K. Beck is getting some good publicity, or book blog mentions of this book, and all the reviews I've seen have been pretty positive. The book is a good book, not hard to read. So when I find it, it will be easy for me to finish it and review it.
In the meantime......Recently I did one of those book runs, where even though I didn't have much money, (In fact, I believe I had $20 that I should have saved for gas, or paid a bill with....) I couldn't help myself. People! I was JONESING, FEINING! - I HAD to at least walk into a bookstore....and since I had $20,....well, you know. I bought Killbox by Ann Aguirre. I like her other series, (Corinne Solomon) but I LOVE the Sirantha Jax books. They just....I have to have them. Felt that way way back in 2008 when I first saw Grimspace and bought it on impulse. Sometimes those impulses lead to good books. In fact, now that I'm almost done with Killbox (last 20 pages coming up) I'm feeling the NEED to re-read the first in the series, Grimspace....Which I think I will do.
Ms Aguirre also writes under the name Ava Gray and Ellen Connor. Also, coming out with YA in 2011- Razorland. Prolific. I don't even write and I feel lazy at all she's accomplished. I haven't read all of her books, but I just won Skin Game.

I am also reading Devon Monk's A Cup Of Normal. This is a seriously twisted anthology of Devon Monks short stories. Some of them are only a couple pages long. Some of them are longer...there is a variety of plots and subjects. I'm enjoying myself very much. I've read about 7 of the shorts so far and this experience has shown me that not only does Devon Monk write a wonderful series (the Allie Beckstrom Magic books) but this woman can write anything - fantasy, sci-fi, horror. Yes, this woman can write. If you haven't bought it yet, go get it. You won't be disappointed. And if you haven't yet read any of the Allie books, (Magic to the Bone, etc.) Where have you been? They're great!
I also re-read my e-book, (so far that's the version I have) of Senior Year Bites - Sooooo Good. Julie Campbell, so far an unpublished writer, but I have hopes - big hopes that soon I will be sneaking to the bookstore to buy HER books! Click on her name, and check out her website.

One of my little sneaky trips to the bookstore also netted me the lastest Seanan McGuire book. I haven't even read the second in the series yet, but in my B.A.D.D. fashion, I just HAD to have the third book, ready here, just in case.... Seanan McGuire is another one of those writers that write in multiple forums, or ways...or genres. She writes horror as Mira Grant. She writes poems, songs, urban fantasy, COMICS!. Her brain probably never slows down.

Next up - I'll be reading The Replacement, a YA Novel by Brenna Yonavoff. I received the ARC a while ago. I've been looking forward to reading this, and just realized that it's getting released this week. I'll post a Tuesday Teaser from it tomorrow for Tuesday. Late, so it's close to Tuesday. :)
Tomorrow promises to be a busy, long day. Half-day for the school children which means the people that run afterschool programs (like me) will be on duty from 12 noon to 6 p.m.
LONG Day.
I also have my granddaughter for two nights, tonight and tomorrow. My grandson comes over on Mondays, so she'll have him to play with, and her uncle to watch the two while I'm at work.
I know when I come home the house will be torn up (more than usual, that is, LOL) and the kids will be tired from fighting with each other and playing all day.
They argue like siblings - very close cousins and both are under 4 years of age.
Quite a combo.
Okay! back to Killbox!

  1. Looks like you had a good week. Hope you find your lost book (hate when that happens, but I have done it numerous times myself). Have a great week.

  2. I read Grimspace too! Loved it. The main character was a strong, kick butt female - gotta love those kinda characters.

  3. I'm sure your book will turn up. My brain is a bit of a sieve at the moment, so I'm often misplacing things. Try the pantry, or the freezer, (done that before LOL)
Anyway enjoy your week, happy reading and have fun with the grandkids :-)

  7. Can't wait to see what you think of The Replacement. It's one I've been wanting to read for awhile as well and just haven't been able to squeeze it in.

Have a fabulous reading week and if you get a second stop by There’s A Book to take a look at what I’ve got planned for the week! :)

1st daughter - So far so good on the Replacement. I'm enjoying the writing style, and getting a few chills although nothing scary is happening yet.
