Feel Good Friday

The Girl Next Door hosts this weekly meme. She also has a pretty humorous blog, taking everyday occurances or even disagreements and writing about them in the funniest way. I love her blog.

On Fridays we're supposed to write about things that make us feel good. If you go to her blog she has some sample topics to choose from. I had planned to do this meme every Friday, but my life keeps getting in the way. I recently found out some bad news about my health, so I'm not feeling very good about things. So it occurs to me, that I need to look for the good things that happened this week. So this is just going to be a list- and the good things might be kind of boring to others, but they mean a lot to me. {thinking.....searching my mind.......oh man, this is hard.....}

1. This weeks episode of Modern Family. If you haven't seen it yet, and are not bothered by ....alternative or blended families, this is one of the funniest, laugh out loud shows I've seen in a long, long time. It's been a very long time since one sitcom has actually made me laugh uproariously over and over throughout the show. It's mainly about three families-who are all part of a larger whole family. There is the Dad, an older man {50's, 60's?} played by the former Al Bundy (remember Married with Children?). He is married to a very curvy, hot Colombian woman who has a son in either middle school or upper grade school. He is like a miniature man stuck in a boy's body. Way too mature for his peers. That is one of the families. The Dad has a son and daughter of his own with his first wife. They each have their own families. The son is a redhead, is gay and has a livein partner - a rather fluffy guy who is a bit of a flamer, but can definitely protect his boyfriend. He also used to play football in college. They have adopted a baby from China. {I think it was China} - she is named Lily and is so sweet. She's baby and doesn't have to act much, but she's so cute and has the greatest expressions. That is a second family. The third family of this show is the Dad's daughter and her husband and three kids. Her husband is kind of a lovable dork. He mis-uses a lot of slang, trying to relate to the younger generations. He really thinks he's doing great at this. They have two daughters; one is a teen and into boys, is beautiful and not so bright. The other daughter is quite a brain, very practical and a little sarcastic. Together they argue a lot and gang up on their little brother who seems a little clueless. He is always doing dangerous things and doesn't seem very bright himself. This is the best sitcom I've seen in such a long time. It's on Wednesdays at 9p.m. pacific time. I seriously look forward to it every week, even if re-runs are showing. If you haven't seen it, you should take a chance on it, you might love it. It's couched between two other fairly funny sitcoms. Middle (about an average family who have nothing spectacular going on-at all. Complete with dorky children. Funny, very funny- I also laugh a lot with this show) and Cougar Town (about a forty-something divorcee who is joining the dating game, her teen son, ex-husband, neighbors...all within her circle of friends-disfunctional friends). My second favorite is Middle and I could take or leave Cougar Town. Alltime favorite is Modern Family
2. I have been reading a book to a group of second graders in the library. I'm feeling good that I can finally read out loud for more than five minutes. . The complete name is Eoin Colfer's Legend of Spud Murphy - in case you want to look it up. This book has made me and the class laugh so hard that tears were coming out of my eyes. Two children from a pack of five boys get sent to the public library for the afternoon-every afternoon for the summer to better them-selves. The problem is that all the kids in town are afraid of the librarian named Spud Murphy because of the alledged potato gun that she keeps in her drawer to SHOOT AT CHILDREN. The other problem is that they are required by the librarian to stay on the carpet in the children's section of the library. The children's section consists of one shelf-section and one small square of carpet. The boys are also ACTIVE boys and don't like to read books. Great book, easy chapter book. We've been reading it for three sessions and are almost finished with it. Some of our second graders have checked out books from this series.
3. My granddaughter just spent two nights with us, because my daughter needed a babysitter. Between my middle son and I we were able to watch my granddaughter and the only time I missed from work was health related. We spent some fun time watching a movie called Ballerina Gypsy - over and over and over and over and over and over.....get the idea? This little three-year-old granddaughter of mine loves to watch movies repeatedly and memorized dialogue from the movies. She is also beginning to question character's reasons for actions. Or even question the clothes that they wear. "why is she wearing a red flower in her hear?" Having my granddaughter around lightens my day. She talks a lot and can have quite a conversation. She'll make up stories also. She loves to work on puzzles or color and requires that I also work on the puzzle, or take time to color with her. Thankfully, she is also learning how to share some of her things with her cousin, my grandson. I'm able to goof off with her and we laugh at a lot of things.
4. I was able to spend time with my grandson twice this week. He usually spends Monday nights -over night- and Thursdays with his father (my son, who lives with us) which means I get to see him on a regular basis. This week is the first week that he is spending not only Monday sleepover here, but also Thursdays overnight. He is fun in the mornings-definitely a morning bird. Though he cannot talk very well yet, he has a way of making himself understood. He loves to dance to Lady Ga-Ga songs and plays with trucks, cars, wrestling figurines, a baby doll and my barbies (Rapunzel and Prince Ken). He loves my puppy, Skippyjon Jones and likes to help feed him. He also loves to run up and down the hall with the dog.
5. I am happy that my son doesn't bat an eye when his son wants to play with a babydoll or my barbies. In fact, when it's time for his nap, or to sleep for the night, my son tells his son to go get his baby (they call it beebee) to cuddle. Doesn't judge or put any sort of negative vibes about the dolls. Playing with dolls at an early age can help a boy bond with his own children later in life. I think that's one of the best things my son can do, just let his baby play with dolls, barbies, trucks, cars, and stuffed animals. He also reads him books and puts music on for him to dance around to.
6. My youngest son has been playing drums. I used to want to be a drummer when I was a kid. His girlfriend bought him a set of drums for Christmas. He's been practicing a lot. My grandson has been paying attention to the drum playing. One day, I heard some drumming going on - it sounded like someone going through all the drums, one after another - doing some good hits with the drumsticks. I went to watch and it was my grandson, standing there, barely reaches the drum tops, drumming away with the drumsticks. He was just going up the line, hitting each drum with sure strokes and getting the cymbals also. I was able to get a quick video of it, although it doesn't show quite how much he was doing. He thought he was in trouble at first.

Wow - I really didn't think I was going to be able to find five "feel-good" items, but I did. I even added a 6th. Is anyone else doing this meme?
